Sheriff's Department
* July 1, 9:20 a.m.: Jacob D. Spears, 17, Waynetown, was westbound on U.S. 36 in a 1999 Ford Mustang. He noticed he was too close to the center line and swerved right to get back in his lane. Upon swerving, the rear of the car broke loose on the wet road and he lost control.
The car slid across the eastbound lane and paved shoulder, striking a mailbox and coming to rest in a ditch.
Damage $1,001-$2,500.
* July 1, 9:36 p.m.: Amanda J. Kelley, 24, Terre Haute, was eastbound on I-70 in a 2004 Ford ZX4. A semi merged into her land and she swerved to miss it, losing control of the car and rolling into the trees.
Kelley was transported to Putnam County Hospital for a blood draw. She was booked into Putnam County Jail at 12:15 a.m. for operating while intoxicated and possession of a controlled substance.
Damage $5,001-$10,000.
* July 2, 4:31 p.m.: Shelly L. Mabis, 25, Centerpoint, was eastbound on U.S. 40 in a 1994 Ford Thunderbird when the wheel bearing went bad, causing the car to swerve.
The car left the south side of the road and hit a tree.
All occupants of the car were checked by Operation Life and signed statements of release.
Mabis was cited for operating with a suspended license and operating without proof of financial responsibility.
Damage $2,501-$5,000.
* July 3, 2:46 a.m.: Mark Stoner, 56, Roachdale, was westbound on CR 1100 North in a 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee. He lost control and hit a culvert on the north side of the road. The vehicle then left the road and went airborne for about 100 feet, also taking out a fence.
The vehicle came to final rest on the north side of the road on the fence, facing eastbound on the driver's side.
When Sgt. Craig Sibbitt arrived at the scene, passenger Scott Alan Styer was still on location. He said that Stoner, his uncle, was driving the vehicle but had fled the scene. Styer said Stoner had been drinking alcohol before the crash.
Styer was checked by medical staff, placed in Sibbitt's car and later released.
Deputies Tyler Turner and Adam Hull found Stoner at his home address and called medical personnel to check him for injuries. He refused treatment.
Stoner was booked into Putnam County Jail for operating while intoxicated, public intoxication and a traffic accident with property damage.
Damage $2,501-$5,00.
