James Allen 'Jimmy' Waters

Sept. 2, 1989-July 1, 2011

SPC E-4 James Allen ("Jimmy") Waters, 21, died Friday, July 1, 2011 in Kandahar, Afghanistan. He was a resident of Cloverdale.

James was born on Sept. 2, 1989 in Indianapolis to Garry and Valerie (Aldous) Waters.

James attended Clark-Pleasant schools and graduated from Whiteland Community High School in the Class of 2008. While in high school he was on the wrestling and football teams.

He enlisted in the U.S. Army in September 2009. He was deployed to Afghanistan in March of this year. He had received seven medals and citations while in the military.

His unit was 1st Battalion, 32nd Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division based at Fort Drum, N.Y. James was a dedicated and enthusiastic soldier.

He enjoyed fishing, paintball and spending time with his family and friends. James liked to make people laugh and enjoyed having fun.

Survivors include his parents, Garry and Valerie Waters of Cloverdale, a sister, Jennifer (Ryan) Mitchell of Cloverdale, three brothers, Anthony, Andrew and Joe Waters, all of Cloverdale, grandparents Pauletta and Gene Curry of Indianapolis and Karen Lafollette of Spencer, grandfathers Kenneth Waters of Massachusetts and William (Alice) Aldous of Pennsylvania, Grandma Callon of Greenwood, niece Emalyn Mitchell of Cloverdale, fiancée Jordan Gibson of Indianapolis, and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Rev. Mickey Roy will conduct a funeral service at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 9 at Whiteland Community High School, 300 Main St, Whiteland, IN 46184.

Friends and family may call from 10 a.m. until time of service Saturday at the high school.

Memorial donations may be made to the SPC E-4 James A. Waters Memorial Account at Fifth Third Bank in care of Jeff Brown, 1160 N. Main St. Franklin, IN 46131.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Jessen Funeral Home, Whiteland Chapel.

  • My daughter was in the same kindergarten class with Joe. I sometimes find a picture with him in it & wonder about him. I'm so sorry to have found out about his life, since clark pleasant school days, this way. My heart goes out to him and your family. God bless you all.

  • My oldest son was in Jimmy's class & my youngest son is friends with Joe (just Joe) we were their neighbors when the older boys were in school. They always had a house full of kids & Garry & Valerie never seemed to care, they had 5 of their own "what's 1 or 2 more " Valerie would always say. Sense they moved I often look over & wonder how they all are doing. I'm so sorry for your loss. It is truly an honor too know the Waters & to call them our family friends.
