Edith Marie Clements

Edith Marie Clements, 81, of Greencastle, residing in St. Augustine, Fla., since 1994 was called home to the Lord on Tuesday, July 12, 2011. She was born Oct. 31, 1929 to parents Ross and Dessie Mae (Smith) Hood.

Edith worked for GTE as an operator and retired May 31,1982 after 32 years and 10 months of service. She was an active member of Hanna Street Baptist Church while living in Greencastle and upon moving to St. Augustine, joined the Community Bible Church. She enjoyed spending her time baking and sharing her baked goodies with family and friends and spoiling her constant companion over the past few years, Tai, her Siamese cat.

Edith was married to Oscar James Clements on Aug. 25, 1950 and he preceded her in death on Nov. 16, 1992. She was also preceded in death by her sisters infant Ruth Imogene Hood, Irene Scotten, Mabel Ilene (Toby) Cole, Virginia Runyan, and Mary Rose Moore; brother Melvin Ross (Bud) Hood and granddaughter Angela Marie Mercer.

She is survived by a daughter Shirley J. (Tyler) Winters, Greencastle; son Bryan J. (Deborah) Clements, St. Augustine, Fla.; sister Wanda L. (James) Wagner, Venore, Tenn.; three grandchildren, Jonathon Mercer, Melissa S. (Jarod) DeDeo, Norfolk, Va. and Brandon J. Clements, St. Augustine; two great-grandchildren, Shane and Rylee DeDeo Norfolk, Va.; loving companion Clarence (Skip) Pollott of St. Augustine and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held at Forest Hill Cemetery on Saturday, July 16, at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society.
