System upgrade set for July 20 at Putnam County Public Library

Monday, July 18, 2011

The Putnam County Public Library's online catalog may be down briefly the morning of Wednesday, July 20 while an upgrade is applied to the Polaris system software.

As a result, the public will see some new features with Polaris 4.0.

Some of the most exciting updates offer enhanced access to patrons over the Internet. A wider variety of mobile devices will be able to access the Public Access Catalog( PAC.)

Also a social bookmarking feature will allow Internet users to share bookmarks to titles in PAC search results with sharing sites such as Facebook, Twitter and Digg. Look for these features and more.

Overall the upgrade will result in easier use for patrons, provide added features, and enable more efficient and easier access to searches. Reference staff will be available to help patrons find materials they need during this time.

Users of the Putnam County Public Library are reminded they must bring their library cards with them on July 20 if they wish to check out materials or use the Internet, as staff will be unable to look up card numbers while the automation system is down.
