Sheriff's Department

* July 12, 10:36 p.m.: Hayden L. Shrewsbury, 18, Roundlake Beach, Ill., was eastbound on CR 50 South in a 2000 Ford Focus. Shrewsbury said a deer jumped in front of his vehicle and he swerved to miss it.

He then lost control, leaving the north side of the road and hit a large concrete end post and fence.

Damage $5,001-$10,000.

* July 21, 8:49 p.m.: Nicolas R. Duncan, 26, Greencastle, was southbound on CR 450 West just south of CR 400 South in a 2000 Honda Civic. A deer jumped into the road and Duncan swerved right to miss it, almost hitting a road sign and continuing through the tall grass.

The grass prevented Duncan from seeing a concrete wall from a small bridge, which he hit with the car's right front.

The impact caused major physical damage and injury to two passengers.

Joshua K. Phillips, 35, Greencastle, the front-seat passenger, complained of neck pain, head pain with cuts, chest pain and knee pain with cuts.

Kelli Butler, 28, Greencastle, the rear passenger, complained of right side of neck pain, should and chest pain. Butler was not wearing a seat belt.

Damage $5,001-$10,000.

City Police

Three recent property-damage accidents were investigated by Greencastle City Police officers.

At 11:55 a.m. Monday, a three-car accident occurred on U.S. 231 South, a mile south of Veterans Memorial Highway.

Officer Ed Wilson reported that Robin Wyatt, 37, Greencastle, had slowed to turn right into her driveway but two vehicles behind her, Matthew Shoup, 17, Hartford City, failed to stop his 2007 Honda Accord in time.

Consequently, Shoup's car ran into the rear of another Hartford City driver's car, a 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt, driven by Joseph Coons, 20. The Coons car was then pushed into the rear of the Wyatt car, resulting in total damage estimated at $5,000-$10,000.

At 9:08 a.m. July 21, a two-vehicle mishap was reported on the Greencastle Mini-Mart parking lot at 7-1 N. Jackson St.

Sgt. Terry Eastham reported that Ashley Kenworthy, 28, Greencastle, backed her 1999 Honda Odyssey into a parked and unoccupied 2008 Ford Ranger, owned by the Indiana Department of Administration.

Total damage was listed at $1,000-$2,500.

At 8:06 a.m. July15, a two-car accident occurred at North Jackson Street and Shadowlawn Avenue.

Chief Tom Sutherlin reported that Erika Davies, 17, Greencastle, was attempting to turn left out of The Monon parking lot and pulled her 1992 Oldsmobile Cutlass into the path of a southbound 2010 Toyota Corolla, driven by Jennifer Gasway, 37, Greencastle.

Davies told police her view of the road was partially obscured by bushes along the west side of Jackson Street.

Total damage in the accident was estimated at $2,500-$5,000.
