Sheriff's Department

* July 31, 10:07 p.m.: Christopher P. Brydon, 17, Greencastle, was northbound on CR 300 East in a 2003 Dodge SSE when he hit a deer that ran into his path.

Damage $2,501-$5,000.

* Aug. 1, 3:22 p.m.: Charles W. Hunter, 61, Coatesville, pulled out of his driveway and started northbound on CR 1100 East in a 1995 Chevrolet Silverado.

About 100 yards north of his driveway, he leaned into his passenger seat to grab something. At the same time, his right side tires went into a ditch, causing him to lose control and strike a Hendricks Power pole.

The vehicle ended up on its side.

Damage $2,501-$5,000.

City Police

Greencastle City Police officers made two recent arrests.

-- At 2:26 a.m. Sunday, Rick Butler, 45, Cloverdale, was arrested by Officer Eric Vaughan on State Road 240 near First Street for operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated.

Butler, who was lodged in the Putnam County Jail, tested at .18 percent blood-alcohol content, police said.

Officer Vaughan also ticketed Butler for having a false or fictitious registration.

-- At 3:22 p.m. Friday, Troy Lee Thomas, 40, Terre Haute, was arrested at the Putnam County Courthouse by Sgt. Chris Jones.

Lodged in the Putnam County Jail, Thomas was arrested on a Putnam County warrant for petition to revoke probation.

A car-bicycle accident resulted in minor injury to the cyclist at 11:46 a.m. Saturday on Indianapolis Road, just west of 10th Street.

Officer Ed Wilson reported that the stoplight was red for eastbound traffic when Eric York, 49, Coatesville, entered the left turn lane in front of Gas America in a 2005 Pontiac Transport.

Cyclist Josef Minartz, 26, Coatesville, rode into the path of the York van, police said, as he went from the Taco Bell lot north to Gas America, cutting in front of stopped vehicles in the through lane before attempting to cross the turn lane.

The bike hit the right passenger side fender of the York vehicle, causing Minartz to roll across the hood, and tumble to the pavement.

Impact shattered the windshield of the van.

Minartz complained of pain to his left elbow and ribcage, police said.

Total damage in the accident was listed at $2,500-$5,000.

Four additional citations were issued by GPD officers.

-- At 1:18 a.m. Tuesday, Matthew Craig, 19, Knightsville, was stopped by Capt. Charles Inman on Bloomington Street, where he was cited for being an operator never licensed.

-- At 8:43 p.m. Sunday, Elliott Harris, 17, Greencastle, was cited by Officer Nick Eastham at Indianapolis Road and Percy Julian Drive for a vehicle adjustment permitting excessive fumes or smoke.

-- At 11:46 p.m. Friday, Matthew Hannel, 26, Cloverdale, was ticketed on Berry Street by Officer Vaughan for an expired license plate.

-- At 10:23 p.m. Friday, Teresa Wallen, 34, Stilesville, was cited on Bloomington Street by Capt. Inman for driving with a suspended license with a prior offense.
