Friday sale to benefit Putnam County Emergency Food Pantry

Wednesday, August 3, 2011

A yard sale scheduled Friday at 409 Elm St., Greencastle, will benefit the Putnam County Emergency Food Pantry.

The sale is set for 9 a.m. until dark. All proceeds will go to the Food Pantry.

Kathy Stephan, who is organizing the event, said the idea is not original. "I saw it in a magazine," she said, "and thought, what a great idea!"

Food Pantry Director Judy Miller is excited about the idea and hopes others in Putnam County will come up with creative ways to help the Food Pantry.

"The most exciting thing is," Stephan said, "most items will be priced at 25 cents. I have art, doo-dads and costume jewelry from when I did children's theater."

A donation jar will be available with a sign reading: "If you think you got a deal, put some money in the jar."

Rain date will be Saturday, Aug. 6.

"We hope to see a lot of folks who not only love yard sales but also want to feel good about doing something for the community," Stephan added.
