Burton Abrell "Abe" Gentry

Burton Abrell "Abe" Gentry, 89, Greencastle, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 3, 2011 at Asbury Towers.

He was born in Freedom, the son of the late Burton Henry and Mabel Gentry. He graduated from Freedom High School and was a World War II veteran, farmer and retiree from IBM after 30 years.

Abe will be greatly missed by his wife of 67 years, Elsie; and his children, Linda (John) Frost and Loretta Fowler; four grandchildren, Tom (Erin) Fowler of Spencer, Jennifer (Bill) Collins of Smyrna, Tenn., Sherry Fowler of Terre Haute and John R. (Kayla) Frost of Danville; and nine great-grandchildren, Kellie, Travis and Tracy Collins, David and Gage Fowler, Bailee, Marlee, and Macee Frost, and Dalton Davis. He is also survived by a niece, Cecily McDonald, and nephew, Douglas Gentry, both of California; and several cousins and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother David of California and sister Joanne of Indianapolis.

Friends and family may call from noon until 3 p.m. Saturday, August 6 at American Legion Post 58, Greencastle. Burial with military rites will follow at 4 p.m. at Riverside Cemetery in Spencer.
