South Putnam defeats four, captures tournament title

The South Putnam volleyball team won four games to capture the South Putnam Volleyball tournament.

The Eagles defeated North Vermillion in game one 25-20 and 25-19 and defeated North Central 25-20 and 26-24 in game two.

South Putnam then went on to down South Vermillion in game three 26-24 and 25-6. It took the Eagles three sets in game four to pull out the win. South Putnam defeated Turkey Run 13-25, 25-16 and 25-15.

"It really was a great day for our volleyball team," head coach Renata Henrickson said. "The ladies have been working really hard this season. Digs and covering the blocks were a few issues we had previous to the tournament. On Friday we worked really hard on improving that coverage. You could tell on Saturday that it worked. They all very excited to win a tournament at home,"

Emily Dabkowski led the Eagles with 23 kills, with Kaylin Yon recording 13, while Ericka Minor and Leanna Masters added 12 kills each. Alex McHugh added seven kills, with Janet Crafton recording two kills and Mallory Cash and Makayla Albers recording one kill each.

Crafton and Masters led the team with nine blocks each, with McHugh adding five, Yon four and Dabkowski one. Dabkowski also had 20 digs, with Brenly Bratcher and Cash adding 11 digs each. Minor had seven digs, while Albers and McHugh had six each. Crafton had one dig.

McHugh led the team with 36 assists, with Crafton adding 22 and Dabkowski adding one for the Eagles.
