Doris 'Dorie' Grace Garl

Doris "Dorie" Grace Garl, 82, Greencastle, passed away Thursday, Sept. 1, 2011 at Hickory Creek at Sunset.

Born Nov. 25, 1928 in Putnam County, she was the daughter of Robert Russell Garl Sr. and Gladys Mae (Stone) Garl.

Dorie worked at the Putnam County Hospital, Hickory Creek at Sunset Nursing Home and was also a nanny for the Sheldon, Terry and Vaughn families.

She enjoyed fishing and cooking for family and friends, along with playing bingo and cards.

Survivors include her sister Melvina Jane (Jack) Gresnick of Homestead, Fla., sister-in-law Mary L. Garl of Greencastle, aunt Florence Ensor of Greencastle, stepmother Vesta Rhodes of Homestead and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers, Richard B. "Gene" Garl, Robert Russell "Russ" Garl and an infant John Garl.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 7 at the Bittles and Hurt Funeral Home, Greencastle, with Pastor Patrick Smith officiating. Interment will follow at the Forest Hill Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 11 a.m. until time of service on Wednesday.
