Intersection improvements continue to take shape at U.S. 231 and State Road 240/Veterans Memorial Highway. The project includes the addition of a right turn lane for northbound traffic on U.S. 231 and a right turn lane for westbound traffic on State Road 240. All four corners of the intersection are being cut back to improve turning movements for large trucks. Alan Plunkett, deputy commissioner of the Crawfordsville District of the Indiana Department of Transportation, was on the scene Wednesday afternoon, and noted the increase in traffic in the 20-some years since Veterans Highway was built. "The intersection is not adequate for today's standards," Plunkett said, alluding to the volume of truck traffic in all directions at the intersection. Rieth-Riley Construction Co., Indianapolis, is the general contractor on the $1,037,700 INDOT project that began July 20 with utility line relocations. Completion is expected by the end of November.
