William R. Powell, 77, of Mooresville, died Sept. 8, 2011.

William was born to Paul I. and Mary (Randall) Powell on July 2, 1934 in Indianapolis.

William married Gloria (Shires) Powell on July 3, 1953.

He was a 1952 George Washington High School graduate. Before retiring in 1991, he worked as a machinist for Detroit Diesel Allison for 25 years.

He attended Grace Church in Mooresville. He was a member of the UAW Local 933.

He lived in Mooresville for 17 years, Cloverdale for 35 years and his birthplace of Indianapolis for 25 years.

William is survived by his wife, Gloria (Shires) Powell of Mooresville; three children, Mark (Charlotte) Powell of IIllinois, Tawnee (Ron) Parrish of Camby, Ind., and Matthew Powell of California; four grandchildren and a great-grandson.

William was preceded in death by his parents, Paul I. and Mary (Randall) Powell; a grandson, John Owen; and a brother, Dale Powell.

Calling will be from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 17 at Jones Family Mortuary, Mooresville. Murray Clugston will officiate the 1 p.m. Celebration of Life Service on Saturday, Sept. 17 at Jones Family Mortuary.

William developed a love for the Haitian people during a mission trip he took in 2001. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to either the Cornerstone Baptist Church "Christmas Bags for Haiti" in Greencastle or Water for Life for Haiti, P.O. Box 456, Kalona, IA 52247.
