GMS running strong

DANVILLE -- The Greencastle Middle School cross country teams brought home a pair of strong finishes Thursday evening at the Dave Landes Invitational. Among the eight teams competing, the GMS girls were first with a score of 43 and the boys were second, also with a score of 43.

Katie Haynes won the girls' race with a time of 12:14, followed closely by teammate Hannah Brattain in 12:15. Corrie Romer finished fifth, while Lilly Spencer was 12th with a personal best of 13:09.

Katie Kessler had a personal best, finishing 23rd with a 13:50 Baily Hudson and Whitney Weinschenk also had personal best times.

"The girls raced really hard to come away with their second victory there in two years," Coach Art Dwigans said.

Jacob Lewis led the Tiger Cub boys by finishing second with a personal best of 10:42. Ben Gelman and Logan Beck came home in sixth and seventh, respectively.

Clayton Wilson was 12th with his best time of 12:00. Peyton Jones finishing 16th overall with a time of 12:25.

"The boys raced really hard and ran into really good team in the Danville squad which won the invitational," Dwigans said.

"The times continue to come down as the season goes along which shows the hard work the kids are putting into practice."

GMS is back in action this morning with the Tiger Cub Invitational at the Putnam County Fairgrounds at 9 a.m.
