Airport upgrade

Saturday, October 8, 2011
Expansion of the aircraft apron at the Putnam County Airport will nearly double in size thanks to a Federal Aviation Administration grant received by the local facility. The airport received more than $750,000 in discretionary funding from the FAA to enlarge the area with both concrete and asphalt surfaces. The expansion will allow the airport more room to accommodate larger planes on the apron, which could be especially important if planes are diverted from larger airports. Wabash Valley Asphalt LLC, is the general contractor for this project. Frank C. Feutz Co., Chrisman, Ill., fresh from completing the Percy Julian Drive project for the City of Greencastle, is the subcontractor on the airport project.

  • The expansion of the airport apron is a forward thinking idea, especially with the Super Bowl coming to Indy this February. This airport improvement is one of many the Airport Board is making. Thanks for making Putnam County a better place to live and work.

  • More money down the toilet. How about a bus that goes to a real airport?

  • Mick, I have watched your negative comments regarding our airport for the last several months. I fail to understand where you get your ideas from, but I would like to invite you out to the airport so you can see and learn first hand what a vital tool this one mile of asphalt is to the local community. Your airport has an economic impact of about 3.4 million dollars for this community as well as providing a vital tool for the local bussineses, Depauw University, EMS/Law enforcement services and the recreational flyers! Feel free to contact me! John Layne, General Manager, Putnam County Airport.
