County Jail

Two people were booked into the Putnam County Jail on Wednesday, Nov. 2.

At 8:40 a.m. Joseph Robert Conforti, 22, Brownsburg, was housed at the jail for probation violation.

At 4:10 p.m. Cassy Lee Finley, 24, Greencastle, was arrested for violation of home detention.

City Police

The alleged theft of a $10 watch from Gas America landed a Greencastle man in jail Wednesday night, City Police reported

David Whitehead, 26, was arrested for shoplifting and theft after Capt. Charles Inman stopped the vehicle in which he was a passenger at 7:31 p.m. on Indianapolis Road. He had reportedly taken the watch from the convenience store on Indianapolis Road a few minutes earlier.

Whitehead was lodged in the Putnam County Jail at 7:45 p.m.

-- At 2:46 a.m. Thursday, Tracey J. Phillips, 30, Greencastle, was arrested by Officer Matt Huffman when the suspect was found lying on the sidewalk in front of Bright Futures on East Washington Street.

Phillips, who was lodged in the Putnam County Jail on charges of public intoxication and probation violation, registered a blood-alcohol content of .224 percent on portable breathalyzer testing.

-- At 3:30 a.m. Wednesday, Christopher David Hunter, 21, Coatesville, was arrested by Capt. Inman while walking along South Indiana Street.

Hunter was lodged in the Putnam County Jail on a Taney County, Mo., warrant for tampering with a motor vehicle.

-- A Greencastle man escaped injury in a one-car accident Wednesday afternoon on Ridgeland Road, 75 feet east of Judson Drive.

Sgt. Chris Jones reported that as Grover A. Vaughan, 90, Greencastle, turned his 1995 Oldsmobile Cutlass onto Ridgeland Road, a cup of coffee he had just purchased from McDonald's tipped over.

When Vaughan reached to catch the cup, the car left the roadway and struck four mailboxes on the north side of the road.

Total damage was estimated at $1,000-$2,500 in the 4:24 p.m. mishap.

One traffic citation was issued Thursday night.

-- At 9:15 p.m., Matthew Lee Shaver, 19, Terre Haute, was ticketed at Indianapolis Road and Kentwood Drive by Officer Matt Huffman for having an expired license plate.

City Fire

* On Wednesday, Nov. 3 at 1:40 p.m. the Greencastle Fire Department assisted Reelsville on a field fire at 10671 S. CR 525 West. Cleared 4:30 p.m.

At 5:55 p.m. GFD was called to a medical assist at 750 Fillmore Rd. but was disregarded en route at 6:05 p.m.

At 6:14 p.m. personnel responded to a medical assist at 806 Draper St. Cleared 8:41 p.m.

* On Thursday, Nov. 4 at 7:57 a.m. GFD was dispatched to at medical assist 317 N. Gillespie St. but was disregarded en route at 8 a.m.
