Greencastle bowling rolls to 3-0 on the season

CRAWFORDSVILLE -- The Greencastle High School bowling team is off to a 3-0 start and tied for first in the eight-team Wabash Valley South High School Bowling Conference.

Greencastle and Lebanon share the league lead after weekend action at Frankfort and Lebanon.

North Putnam is 2-1, while South Putnam is still looking for its first victory as well as some bowlers to complete its lineup. All three teams from Putnam County bowl out of Plaza Lanes in Crawfordsville.

Other high schools in the conference are Crawfordsville, Southmont, Lebanon, Clinton Prairie and Frankfort. Bowling is not sanctioned by the Indiana High School Athletic Association, however the high school leagues are sanctioned by the United States Bowling Congress (USBC). Bowlers are responsible their own expenses.

All scoring in the two-game contests is actual and handicaps are not included. Each team enters five bowlers and can substitute after the first game.

On Saturday at Frankfort, Greencastle beat North Putnam 917-755 and 976-566.

Greencastle, coached by Scott Alexander, was led by Jacob Schick, a recent transfer from Lafayette, with a 405. Schick was followed by Reggie Alex with a 396 and Joe Fields 349 for two-game scores. Ray Stinson rolling a 238, followed by at Austin Alspaugh 201, Brittany Friars 152 and April Cain 151.

North Putnam, a young team coached by Angela Thompson, was led by Xzlander Crowe with a two-game score of 364, Dalton Spear 297 and Blake Bonifacius 259. One-game scores by Josh Andreu at 128, Joe Mindiola 119, Tyler Alford 82 and K.C. Lofton 72.

With just three bowlers South Putnam was bowling up hill against Frankfort's full five-player lineup. Frankfort won 662-402 and 662-438. Anythony Cosner led South Putnam with a 297, followed by Tyler Nield with a 274 and Matt Allen at 268.

On Sunday at Lebanon, Greencastle topped Southmont 1,005-708 and 826-758.

With a full eight-player roster on hand, only two Greencastle bowlers rolled two games. Greencastle was led by Stinson with scores of 232 and 224 for a 456 total, followed by Schick at 418, which included 257 game.

Rolling one game, Alex scored a 192, Alspaugh 167, Zane Miller 166, Fields 157, Friars 141 and Cain 126.

North Putnam, now 2-1, defeated Crawfordsville on Sunday, 590-309 and 632-328.

Crowe led North Putnam with scores of 155 and 163 for a 318 string, followed by Andreu with a 271. One-game scores for North Putnam included Jeremiah Fink 122, Lofton 114, Spear 111, Nikki Wertz 103, Mindiola 91 and Bonifacius 82.

South Putnam did not compete on Sunday.

The Wabash Valley South High School Bowling Conference resumes action at 5 p.m. Wednesday at Plaza Lanes in Crawfordsville where Greencastle bowls against Clinton Prairie, North Putnam takes on Lebanon and South Putnam meets Southmont.
