An 81-year-old Poland man suffered injuries in an unusual accident Thursday afternoon on Bloomington Street, Greencastle City Police reported.

Dane Thompson was taken to Putnam County Hospital via Operation Life ambulance following the 1:33 p.m. accident. He was later airlifted to Methodist Hospital at Indianapolis, City Police reported.

Witnesses told police Thompson's car was on private property at 320 Bloomington St. when he was seen exiting the 1989 Oldsmobile without putting the car in park or turning it off.

As the car began to back up on its own, Thompson unsuccessfully tried to re-enter the vehicle, witnesses said.

The car's momentum threw him to the ground, and sent the vehicle into a circular pattern, causing it to run over Thompson.

The police report did not specify his injuries.

Property damage was estimated at $10,000, although the report did not detail what was damaged beyond the yard and the 22-year-old car.

Meanwhile, one traffic citation was issued Thursday by city officers.

-- At 9:05 p.m. Dwayne Scott, 25, Roachdale, was cited on Indianapolis Road by Officer Matt Huffman for having a false or fictitious registration.
