GMS eighth grade sweeps Cascade

In middle school basketball action Monday, the Greencastle eighth grade took two from the visiting Cascade Cadets.

In a closely contested A game, neither team gained more than a three-point advantage. GMS held a one-point advantage at the end of the first half and third quarter and held on to win 36-33.

Brandon Gierke and Ryan Coble led the Tiger Cubs in scoring with 12 each and Zach Wilkerson chipped in six.

Wilkerson and Coble dished out three assists each. Gierke and Cole Edgar pulled down six and five rebounds, respectively.

In the B game, Greencastle jumped out to an early lead and headed into the locker room with a 18-7 advantage. The Tiger Cubs lost their momentum in the second half as Cascade mounted a comeback and closed the gap to 20-18 midway through the fourth quarter.

Anthony Rossok converted a three-point play late in the game that sealed the 23-18 victory.

Braden White led all scorers with seven points followed by Rossok with six and Dylan Owens with four.

Jacob Sanders was the leading rebounder with five caroms, with Owens pulling down four also. White handed out three assists and Rossok had three steals on the evening.

The Tiger Cubs are unbeaten. The A Team is 4-0 and the B Team 1-0

A game scoring: Gierke 12, Coble 12, Wilkerson 6, Lewis 4, Rossok 2.

B game scoring: White 7, Rossok 6, Owens 4, Lamb 2, Walker 2, Sanders 2.

The Tiger Cubs host Cloverdale at 6 p.m. Monday.
