'I Do! I Do!' comes to Myers Dinner Theatre
Myers Dinner Theatre announces the first show in its 2012 season, "I Do! I Do!" opening on Wednesday, Feb. 8.
The show features book and lyrics by Tom Jones and music by Harvey Schmidt, the creators of "The Fantasticks." The romantic comedy runs at MDT through Feb. 25, with shows primarily on Wednesday and Saturday afternoons, and Friday and Saturday evenings.
The Saturday, Feb. 11 evening show will be a special Valentine's celebration and feature a prime rib buffet dinner. Other performances are available, so call for specific dates and times.
In this two-character musical comedy, 50 years of marriage is examined. The show begins with Michael and Agnes preparing for their wedding day and follows them up to the point they are ready to give their house up to a newly married couple.
Along the way, the audience accompanies them through wedding night jitters, the birth of their children, the difficulties of keeping a marriage fresh and the loneliness of becoming empty-nesters.
All of these significant events are accompanied by a tuneful score that includes: "My Cup Runneth Over," "Flaming Agnes," "The Honeymoon Is Over," and the title song.
The original 1966 Broadway production starred Mary Martin and Robert Preston, and was directed by Gower Champion.
Director Michael Moyer, Indianapolis, plays Michael, the mostly-oblivious husband and Ginny Spillman, Indianapolis, plays Agnes, the long-suffering, but feisty wife. Live accompaniment is provided by John Blair, Crawfordsville. All three are very well-known to MDT audiences.
Weekday and Saturday matinees begin with dinner at noon and show at 1:30 p.m.; Friday and Saturday evening performances with dinner at 6:30 p.m. and show at 8 p.m.
There are not shows on all days, so call for specific dates available.
The cost for dinner and show is $36 (tax included); children 4-18 are $25. Group prices are available. Show-only tickets are also available for $20, but you'll miss that wonderful home-cooked buffet. For more information or reservations, call the MDT office at 765-798-4902, ext. 2.
The theatre is located at 108 Water St., Hillsboro and is handicapped-accessible and microphone-free.
