Relay for Life kickoff parties set for Tuesday

Saturday, February 4, 2012

It's time to gear up for this year's Relay for Life and begin forming teams and reaching those fundraising goals. There will be two kickoff parties on Tuesday, Feb. 7.

The community is invited to attend the Community Breakfast Kickoff at the Putnam Inn Restaurant from 7-8 a.m. During the event, residents are invited to enjoy a free buffet breakfast furnished by Relay for Life.

There will also be an American Cancer Society liaison Rachel Romas to answer any questions one may have along with providing literature on the event. Greencastle Mayor Sue Murray is also scheduled to speak.

"Each of the committee chairs on Relay will give a five-minute presentation about what their role will be in this year's relay," said Dick Shuck, co-chairman for Putnam County. "Participants will also be given contact information for the committee members so they know who to contact as their teams move forward and begin to develop."

DePauw University will also be having its own kickoff event on the evening of Tuesday, Feb. 7 from 7-8 p.m. at the Union Building Ballroom. Although the event will be more informal than the breakfast, light refreshments will be served.

DePauw Relay for Life representatives Danielle Boyd and Katherine Butler will be in attendance to answer any questions potential participants may have.

"The university kickoff will be more geared toward the college ground," Shuck said. "They will share information about this year's relay and different committee and committee chairs will speak to the audience."

The community is invited to attend either of the kickoff events to find out more information on this year's Relay for Life as well as sign up for the event, which will take place on Saturday, April 21.
