Foundation making matching grants available through March 1

Thursday, February 9, 2012

The Putnam County Community Foundation has announced the availability of matching grants for endowments benefiting charitable organizations in Putnam County.

All charitable organizations are eligible to apply, including 501(c)(3) non-profits, churches and units of government. Matching grants are available for an organization's existing or soon-to-be created endowment at the Community Foundation.

Grant applications are due to the Community Foundation office at 2 S. Jackson St., Greencastle, by Thursday, March 1.

This opportunity is created out of the Community Foundation's commitment to increasing the capacity of local charitable organizations.

"Establishing an endowment builds financial stability and helps a charity to attract larger gifts, including estate gifts," Elaine Peck, executive director of the Community Foundation, said. "Plus, this is a perfect way for donors to maximize their contributions because each gift is matched and makes a lasting impact."

Organizations applying must set a goal for their endowment building campaign and have a plan to successfully complete the goal. The application is one-page, front and back, with only one attachment. It can be downloaded at www.pcfoundation.org.

The Putnam County Community Foundation is a nonprofit public charity established in 1985 to administer endowments, award grants and provide leadership, enriching the quality of life and strengthening community in Putnam County.

The Community Foundation administers more than 220 funds and endowments for donors, supporting a variety of charitable purposes.
