IHSAA announces boys' sectional tournament brackets

On Sunday afternoon, the IHSAA announced the brackets for the 2011-12 boys' sectional tournament pairings. Cloverdale, Greencastle and South Putnam will be staying in county, while North Putnam hits the road to Frankfort to compete in the Class 2A No. 25 Frankfort Sectional.

County foes Cloverdale and South Putnam will face off in the first game of the Class 2A No. 44 South Putnam Sectional. The two team split this season, with South Putnam winning the first game 42-29 in the Putnam County Tournament. Cloverdale rebounded with a narrow 46-45 win at home on Jan. 25.

The winner will face Cascade, the only team with a winning record in the sectional, on Friday at 6 p.m. Both teams have lost to the Cadets twice this season.

South Putnam lost to Cascade 68-44 on Dec. 9 and again in the championship game of the South Putnam Classic 68-55 on Dec. 30. Cloverdale fell to the Cadets in the first round of the South Putnam Classic 73-40, then lost to the Cadets 56-29 on Jan. 13.

Like South Putnam, Greencastle will host the Class 3A No. 28 Sectional, with play beginning Tuesday. The host Tiger Cubs take on Brown County in game two Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. The two teams tangled on Feb. 4 with GHS coming away with a 74-68 win. The winner will face Owen Valley in the second game of the semi-final on Friday. Greencastle will get its first look at the Patriots this season on the road tonight at 7:30 p.m.

North Putnam received a first-round bye and will automatically move into the Class 3A No. 25 Frankfort Sectional semi-final. The Cougars will await the winner of the Southmont and Frankfort match-up. North Putnam opened its season with an 86-73 loss to the Mounties and would face an unknown oppoenent if Frankfort advances to Friday night.
