Golden Eagles win Greencastle hoops regional

Guerin Catholic's Aaron Brennan went for a double-double, scoring 20 points and 14 rebounds as the Golden Eagles defeated Frankfort 61-44 at the Class 3A Greencastle basketball regional.

Guerin Catholic fended off a tough Frankfort squad in the first quarter, leading by four points, 14-10. The second quarter was a different story. The Golden Eagles outscored the Hot Dogs 18-9 in the second to take a sizeable 32-19 lead at halftime.

Frankfort picked up its pace in the second half, but Guerin had an answer for anything thrown its way.

While Brennan did most of the damage in the first half for Guerin Catholic, Adam Hufford scored nine third-quarter points to power the Golden Eagles to a 17-point quarter and an 18-point lead, 49-31, going into the fourth quarter.

Despite being outscored 13-12 in the final stanza, the Golden Eagles cruised through the fourth quarter to come away with the regional victory 61-44.

In addition to Brennan's 20 points, Hufford added 15, with Riley Rapp and Mitchell Page adding eight points each. Bryan Hall chipped in seven points, while Whit Rapp added two points and Cris Burrough adding one points.

For the Hot Dogs, Dakota Isgrigg led the way with 17 points. Christian Smith joined Isgrigg in double-figures with 14, with Brody Kirby adding seven and Alex Isgrigg adding six.

Guerin Catholic advances to face Evansville Bosse at the Seymour Semi-state at 1 p.m. Saturday.
