South Putnam Central Elementary fifth-grader Addison Hughes recently served as a page for District 44 State Rep. Jim Baird (R-Greencastle) during the current session of the Indiana General Assembly. During his visit to the Statehouse, Hughes met with Rep. Baird, took a tour of the Capitol, and observed the legislative process. Before the session began, Hughes even had the chance to try out a couple of the chairs and get them warmed up for legislators. Rep. Baird invited Addison, age 10, to serve in recognition of him winning the 2011 Wabash Valley Regional Spelling Bee and subsequently representing the area at the National Spelling Bee last June in Washington, D.C. Hughes, the son of Adam and Beverly Hughes, Greencastle, will return to spelling action at the regional spelling bee March 17 at Sarah Scott Middle School in Terre Haute.
