Richard D. Miller, 78, Greencastle, passed away on Saturday, March 17, 2012 at his residence.

He was born on Jan. 13, 1934 in Independence, Kan., and was the son of the late George Cobb and Nellie Glenn (Chaffin) Miller.

Richard grew up and began his young adult life in Coalinga, Calif., before settling down in Salinas, Calif., in 1962 to raise his family. In 2005 Richard and Fern moved with family to the Greencastle/Cloverdale area.

He was a retired vocational instructor for the California Department of Corrections and was a member of the Faith Baptist Church, Cloverdale; United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners Local 925, Salinas; and CSCA.

He married Fern (Apple) Miller on Oct. 28, 1955 and she survives.

He is also survived by his children, Nancy Wenzinger of Rogers, Ark., Susan Gulley and husband Paul of Greencastle and Rodney Miller of Salinas; his sister, Phyllis Tomasin and husband Ed of California; his brother, Bill Miller and wife Carolyn of Arizona; his five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 21 at the Whitaker Funeral Home, Cloverdale. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 20 from 4-8 p.m. at the Whitaker Funeral Home, Cloverdale. Interment will be in the Cloverdale Cemetery.
