JEFFERSONVILLE (AP) -- Indiana State Police say a man is charged with impersonating a public servant and theft after allegedly soliciting money and taking disaster-relief supplies in storm-stricken areas of southern Indiana.

The Courier-Journal reports that police arrested 53-year-old Gerald Scott Flint of Brazil on Tuesday after a person complained March 10 he was soliciting donations in Clark and Scott counties for an organization called Volunteer Medics Worldwide.

State police don't believe he was working with a legitimate organization. They say he led some donors to believe he was working with the Department of Homeland Security.

Prosecutors say he took supplies from a Henryville relief center and couldn't explain what he'd done with them.

Flint does not have a published home telephone number in Brazil and could not be reached for comment.
