BRAZIL -- South Putnam's boy's golf squad picked up a win Tuesday evening after downing Danville 182-194 at Oak Ridge Golf Club.

With wind and falling temperatures impacting the round. The Eagles picked up their first win of the season behind Alex Kelly's medalist-winning round of 41.

Derek Chestnut chipped in a 44, with Alex Eickhoff and Justin Berry rounding out the scoring with a 48 and 49, respectively.

Austin Query posted a round of 53, with Marcus Skinner carding a 54, Tanner Robinson shooting 55 and Sam Gould rounding out the cards with a 57.

Danville was paced by Zach Gierdts and Payton Perry, who shot 44 and 47, respectively.

South Putnam head coach Brian McClure thought the squad did well in the less-than spring-like conditions.

"It's good to get the first win. There's definitely things we could improve upon, such as three-putts and keeping the ball in play," McClure said.

"You never know what you're going to get weather wise. We've got to be ready to play no matter what the weather is. Everybody plays in the same conditions, so there's no excuse for not playing your own game."

"Overall, we're happy to get that first win. Alex Kelly is playing some great golf. Derek Chestnut played pretty well. He improved from the first meet, which he wasn't too happy with, by seven strokes," McClure added.

Hosting Tri-West Thursday, McClure said that some little things will have to improve if the squad wants to get a second win against the Bruins.

"We'll have to play better Thursday to compete with Tri-West. If we can adjust to the wind and play a little smarter, we'll improve on our score and have a chance to win."
