DANVILLE -- The North Putnam boys' golf team edged Cloverdale 194-197 Monday.

Danny Smith shot a 41 to win medalist honors for the Cougars, with Jake Smith adding a 48. Lance Clodfelter shot a 50, while Jon Willard added a round of 55 and Emmett Holsapple added 58. Tyler Martin shot a 61.

Cloverdale was led by Brody Pfaff's 47, with Aaron Whitlock carded a 49. Zach Hall shot a 50, with Rylan Mattocks adding a 51 and Colte Tomlinson a 53. Freddy Fislar rounded out the CHS golfers with a 54.

"Conditions were pretty rough, with very strong winds and very fast greens," CHS head coach Doug Wokoun said. "We did not execute very well and I think all our players were disappointed in their efforts. Danny Smith had a very impressive round for North, and did a great job coping with conditions.

"We are making some physical mistakes, which is part of any athletic endeavor," he added. "More importantly, we are making a lot of mental errors, which is something we can control. We have to live with the physical mistakes, but we can certainly do something about the mental errors. We need to focus on that immediately."

Wokoun said his team needs to continue to work hard to see improvement.

"Things are not going to get easier any time soon, and we have to step up to the challenge and do a better job. I felt pretty good about our progress at the end of last week, but we have taken a step backward. While that is common for inexperienced teams, we have to fight that situation and put forth a better all-around effort," Wokoun said.
