Welch breaks Cougar record in tri-meet

ROACHDALE -- The North Putnam girls' track team competed against Rockville and Riverton Parke. In the meet, the Cougars posted five wins, including setting a record in the discus.

Katie Welch won the discus with a toss of 109-6, breaking a record that was set in 1989. Sam Lucas won the shot put with a distance of 36-1/2, while Katie Douglas winning the 1,600-meter run in a time of 6:11. Douglas also won the 3,200-meter run.

North Putnam took first place in the 3,200-meter relay. The team consisted of Claire Dean, Makaela Hudson, Mikayla Roach and Samantha Freije. The Cougars placed second in the 400 and 1,600-meter relays.

Posting second place finishes on the night were Alex Land (100 H), Rebecca Booth (100), Kate Sexton (300 H), Dean (800), Aubrey Healey (long jump). Hannah Powell placed second in both the shot put and the discus.
