Tox-Away Day is Saturday

Friday, May 18, 2012

The annual chance for Putnam County residents to safely and inexpensively dispose of household hazardous waste is just one day away.

Tox-Away Day is set for 8 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday at the Putnam County Fairgrounds.

West Central Solid Waste District spends nearly $24,000 for each one-day event, so all residents are invited to take advantage of this service by cleaning out their homes and garages and bring hazardous items.

These materials, if disposed of improperly, can be dangerous to your health and the environment.

The Putnam County Tox-Away Day will be held rain or shine. When residents arrive, they will be routed to appropriate collection stations. The event is organized to get people in and out as quickly and safely as possible.

Trained staff will be on hand to unload vehicles without residents leaving the comfort of their cars. Expect longer lines between 8 and 9:30 am.

For a complete list of items collected go to www.westcentralswd .com under "Tox Away Events." Individuals may can call the district office with specific questions at 800-211-2750.

This program is designed for residents only -- businesses will be prohibited.
