Cloverdale and South Putnam boys' golf teams battled to a tie with a total of 178, with the Eagles earning the win on the fifth score card. Tri-West placed third with a total of 189.

South Putnam's Derek Chestnut led all golfers with a low-round of 42, followed by Alex Kelly with 44. Alex Eickhoff, Justin Berry and Tanner Robinson all shot 46, with Austin Query shooting a 61.

The Clovers were led by Brody Pfaff's 43, with Zach Hall and Aaron Whitlock adding scores of 44. Freddy Fislar shot a 47, while Rylan Mattocks firing a 50 and Colte Tomlinson a 51.

"Quail Creek is a pretty wide open course, and the wind was an obstacle that everyone found difficult at some point," head coach Doug Wokoun said. "I am encouraged by some things that are happening right now. We are all showing some improvement in some phases of the game. Having said that, there are still some things that we need to do better."

Wokoun said he like a lot of what he saw, but still saw some room for improvement.

"Brody played pretty well, and Zach and Aaron were right with him," Wokoun. "We are still plagued by inconsistency from hole to hole, but there is definitely improvement. Freddy is finally putting some things together and I expect that he will continue to lower his score.

"Rylan and Colte struggled with some things, but they are capable of posting better scores. I expect they will continue to bring things into more focus," Wokoun said.

The Clovers play at Terre Haute South and White River Valley next Wednesday.
