County to buy two new tandem trucks

Wednesday, June 20, 2012

While the county received three bids for new tandem trucks for the Putnam County Highway Department earlier this month, only one of the bids met the specifications of the department.

With only one choice, the Putnam County Commissioners approved Tuesday the recommendation to buy two Volvo trucks from Truck City of Gary.

Bids from Terre Haute Truck Center and Indy Truck Sales did not meet the requirements.

The trucks come at a price of $108,015 each. The county will also purchase a pair of dump beds from Clark Truck Equipment of Linden at a cost of $29,088.

The total cost -- which includes trade-ins of old county trucks -- is $274,206. The county is financing the purchases through First Financial Bank at a rate of 2.75 percent annually.

In other business, the commissioners made two appointments to county boards. David Taylor was appointed to the Putnam County Public Library Board, replacing Ken Heeke. Duane Skoog will replace Mike Clodfelter on the Aviation Board.
