Joanne Crosby Miller, 80, passed away Tuesday, July 3, 2012.

Joanne was born June 26, 1932 to Claude and Dorothy Wright Crosby. They preceded her in death.

Joanne graduated from Roachdale High School. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Indiana University and a master's degree from Butler University.

On Sept. 20, 1953 she married Earl "Duke" Miller, a farmer.

Survivors include the husband; two sons, Kirk and Craig Miller, both of Roachdale; two granddaughters, Megan Jo Miller of Richmond, and Bailey Anne Miller of Roachdale; and a sister, Sandra Hodges, of Buffalo Grove, Ill.

Joanne spent her undergraduate college days in Bloomington. During that time, she was very involved with Alpha Gamma Delta sorority. After graduation, she continued working with the Alpha Gams as province president for several years at IU, Eastern Illinois, Southern Illinois and DePauw universities.

Joanne taught elementary school for 26 years, teaching at New Ross, Bainbridge and Roachdale. She always enjoyed her students.

Joanne also enjoyed many years of volunteer work. In addition to her work with the Alpha Gams, she was a 60-year member of Delta Theta Tau and held all chapter offices.

She was a life-long and devoted member of the Roachdale Presbyterian Church, taught Sunday school and was clerk of the session. She was a member of the Roachdale-Franklin Township Library Board and publicity chairman of the Putnam County Retired Teachers.

With more schooling, Joanne became an EMT and spent 10 years as a volunteer for PMH Ambulance Service.

Joanne liked to read, knit, cross-stitch and travel. She and Duke traveled through all of the U.S., 19 European countries and one African country. She especially enjoyed her granddaughters and took Megan on many of their trips. She always looked forward to seeing Bailey at least once a week.

Visitation will be at the Roachdale Presbyterian Church from 5-8 p.m. Friday July 6. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 7 at the church with Rev. David Bower officiating. Burial will be in Roachdale Cemetery.
