Coffee Time

Friday, August 24, 2012
Renovations are continuing as crews are working both inside and out of the old Prevo's store location on Washington Street. Workers from T&W Corp. of Indianapolis and Wood Builders of Greencastle have already made some headway installing what will soon be the new Starbucks coffee shop. The new bookstore and Starbucks are expected to open in late September. Banner Graphic/LAUREN BOUCHER

  • Great news for Greencastle and Depauw, but a local shop would have been ideal!

  • Jeff, no one stopped a local shop from setting up business in this location or the currently vacant former Goodwill or Bright Beginnings.

The reality is that retail does better when parking is not an issue. The relocation of the Goodwill store is proof of this.

Good news for the Blue Door, though. It's documented that local coffee shops benefit from a Starbucks coming to town!

  • sassylass....I couldn't agree with you more. Take care of the parking first! But how many years have we been dealing with this issue and still nothing works. I say TOW and maybe the employees of all the businesses wouldn't part there taking up real business away from the downtown area.

  • I wonder how many Putnam Co. resedents miss the beautiful Art Deco design of the old Prevo store especially the corner canopied entrane that was designed from the Dome of The Sheraton Hotel in Chicago. From observation the new front has no distinction from any other business. So much for progress.

  • Downtown will prosper after it's all said and done.

  • Looking forward to the bookstore...missed Fine Print when they left. A nice addition to downtown!
