SR 236 closing Monday for repairs in Roachdale

Friday, September 7, 2012

ROACHDALE -- State Road 236 will close at the railroad tracks in Roachdale beginning on Monday, Sept. 10.

The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) announced that CSX Railroad will be performing railroad repairs and resurface work.

S.R. 236 is set to reopen on Friday, Sept. 15.

The official INDOT detour will lead eastbound motorists south on U.S. 231, east on U.S. 36 and back north on S.R. 75. The westbound detour follows the same route in reverse.

However, local traffic has a number of shorter routes around the construction work. The other two railroad crossings in town -- West Washington Street and West Columbia Street -- will remain open during the work.

Additionally, the crossings at both Putnam County Road 1200 North and Montgomery County Road 1200 South will remain open.

INDOT reminds motorists to follow the posted work zone speed limit, use caution and consider worker safety when traveling through a construction zone. For the latest news and information about INDOT, visit www.in.gov/indot.

  • I am very glad that this work is finally being done. That crossing has been in terrible shape for a long, long time.

been terrible for years! Like one of our Town Board

members told me- "the railroad pretty much does what

    it feels like doing".....
