Constitution Week a time for celebration

Friday, September 14, 2012

To the Editor:

Each year the Daughters of the American Revolution celebrate the Constitution of our great country.

Over 200 years ago American colonists sacrificed their lives and fortunes to establish the freedoms guaranteed by the Constitution of the United States of America.

The far-sighted citizens provided a republic which established laws to protect the rights of all citizens. Today we watch as people throughout the world battle for the rights many of us take for granted.

The week of Sept. 17-23 is Constitution Week. Take time to appreciate these much-coveted rights.

Washburn Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution in Greencastle encourages you to read the Constitution, including the Bill of Rights and the 27 Amendments. You'll discover a deeper appreciation for America and her cherished history.
