Dine With a Doc

Tuesday, October 9, 2012

Senior Education Ministries, Inc. has scheduled Dine With a Doc to occur on the fourth Monday of every month from 10 a.m. to noon at the First National Bank in Greencastle.

Dine With a Doc is a free program that welcomes the senior public to hear the doctor of the month speak about an educational topic while having lunch.

This month's featured doctor is Dr. Roy Geib Ph.D. Professor Geib received a B.A. from Montclair State College in 1974 for biology and his Ph.D in biomedical sciences from the University of Texas Health Science Center in Dallas.

Professor Geib's current research interest is in exploring the interactions between the stress-response, the relax-response, the immune system and the endocrine system.

He is particularly interested in exploring the health benefits of mind-body modalities such as Tai Chi and Qigong for the prevention and intervention of chronic diseases such as cancer, depression, post-traumatic stress, obesity and diabetes.

Professor Geib is currently working with a team of faculty and students to develop a wellness program for medical students at Indiana University School of Medicine -- Terre Haute that will include Tai Chi/Qigong as well as other mind-body activities.

Dr. Geib's presentation topic will be "Journey Toward Wellness".

Lunch will be provided by Putnam County Hospital.
