South Putnam opens with loss to Rockville

ROCKVILLE -- South Putnam took to the road to open its girls' basketball season against Rockville Tuesday. The Eagles suffered a tough one-point loss to the Rox 45-44.

Mallory Cash and Amanda Barnes led the Eagles with 11 points each, with Leanna Masters adding nine points. Nikki York chipped in eight points, with Mattie Varvel adding four points and Katie Hewitt contributing one point.

Master recorded seven rebounds, while York hauled in six. Varvel led the team in steals with three and Aubrey Nichols recorded a team-high seven assists.

South Putnam will travel to Edgewood Friday at 6 p.m.
