The DePauw School of Music will host pianist Ray Kilburn, the next guest artist on the School's new Faculty Select Series on Nov. 16 and 17.

On Friday night at 7:30 p.m. an ambitious concert of works for solo piano is planned, ranging from Schubert's Impromptu in A-flat Major to four Preludes by Sergei Rachmaninov.

In one critic's words, "if Kilburn is not the reincarnation of the great romantic pianists, he comes close."

Recognized as being among Canada's most gifted artists, Kilburn's career has taken him throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico, Central America, Europe and Asia, and critics have been unanimous in praise of his outstanding technical abilities and artistic temperament.

Arthur Kaptainis of the Montreal Gazette wrote, "Kilburn came across as a pianist of serious musical aims and thorough technical command. Technical hurdles were cleared with aplomb and his warm, firm tone never faltered."

Dr. Kilburn, who earned a licentiate diploma and bachelor's degree in performance at McGill University, and master's and doctoral degrees in piano performance at Indiana University, now holds an artist-faculty position in piano performance at Ball State University.

In addition to the concert, Prof. Kilburn will lead a master class for student pianists at 10 a.m. on Saturday morning. Both the concert and the master class are open to the public and will be held in the Green Center's Thompson Recital Hall.

General admission tickets to Faculty Select Series concerts are $5-$7. Children under 12, all students, and seniors over 65 are free. No admission will be charged to attend the master class.
