SAWs completes 2012 mission, looks to expand in '13

The SAWs mission of the Greencastle Presbyterian Church completed 18 ramps in 2012. The volunteers look to expand the mission into Owen County in 2013.

On Nov. 10 the SAWs mission of the Greencastle Presbyterian Church to provide handicap ramps and low-rise steps to the handicapped needy of Putnam County completed its fourth year of service to the community.

Over the past four years, SAWs (Servants at Work) has built 47 ramps providing freedom to handicapped citizens in the community. This year, 18 were completed at no cost to the clients.

SAWs would like to take this opportunity to thank all the organizations and people who have supported the SAWs mission during the last year. These include Headley Hardware, the Putnam County Community Foundation, WREB radio, the Indiana MS Society, the Greencastle FOR #4388, the Greencastle Christian Church and many others.

The support from the members of the community is vital to the success of SAWs as providing these ramps cannot continue without their help. The volunteers look forward to the continued support of the community in 2013.

Working with the Back Home in Indiana Alliance of the governor's office in a coalition with other community assistance providing organizations, SAWs is attempting to expand its mission into Owen County in 2013.

An effort is being made to establish a SAWs team in Owen County to support this effort, as the Putnam County Team cannot handle all of the projected work.

There are currently build requests on the schedule for 2013 in both Putnam and Owen counties. If anyone who has difficulty accessing their home, contact the Putnam County SAWs Team at 653-5713 or churchoffice@cinergymetro.net.

The work requested between now and next year will be scheduled as soon as possible in 2013.
