Greencastle girls' top Edgewood in matinee

The Greencastle girls' basketball team beat Edgewood on Saturday, 44-35.

Tied 20-20 at the half, GHS sophomore Jessica Lenihan tallied 12 of her 13 points in the second half to help the Tiger Cubs to victory.

"It was a complete team win," GHS coach Bradley Key said. "(Senior) Rayleigh Amis helped limit (Edgewood's) Vanessa Brown to only 11 points when she's been averaging 17."

Key also said junior Alex Basile put forth an outstanding effort, playing 31 of a possible 32 minutes.

Sophomore Callan Taylor led the Tiger Cubs with 16 points, scoring 11 in the first half.

Basile added five, with Amis (four) and sophomore Taylor Stoltey (four) and junior Shelby Earl (two) also contributing.

The win brought the Tiger Cubs' season record to 5-4.

In their previous game, the team lost to Tri-West on Tuesday, 58-39.

Amis was the team's leading scorer, chipping in 11 points.

The Tiger Cubs' also had scoring contributions from sophomores Sydney Smiley (seven), Lenihan (seven), Taylor (four) and Lauren Bridgewater, senior Jessi Covert (four) and Alex Basile (two).

The loss dropped GHS's season record to 4-4.

Their next game is Tuesday versus Danville at 7:30 p.m.
