Home decorating contest open to all county residents

It is time again for citizens of Putnam County to break out the lights, wreaths, bows and plastic Santas and get busy decorating front yards, porches and driveways for the holidays.

Decorating can not only brighten up the town and neighborhood, but may also earn entrants a chance at a $100 Walmart gift card.

The Greater Greencastle Chamber of Commerce and Super Walmart are again sponsoring the Putnam County Home for the Holidays Lawn Decorating Contest.

The contest in open to all homes in Putnam County.

Residents can enter by filling out and returning the entry form to the Chamber of Commerce office at 16 S. Jackson St., Greencastle, or by faxing it to 848-1015 by 4 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 14.

Once entered, residents must have their home decorated and ready for judging by Monday, Dec. 17.

Judging will take place between the dates of Monday, Dec. 17 and Wednesday, Dec. 19. Lights need to be turned on for judging between the hours of 5 and 10 p.m. on each of those evenings.

Contestants will be judged on originality, continuity of theme, preparation and effort and "Spirit of Christmas."

Winners will be announced in the Banner-Graphic, Hoosier Topics and on WREB 94.3 FM. The first-place winner will receive a $100 Walmart gift card, second place a $50 Walmart gift card and third place a $25 Walmart gift card.
