Marian Velfred Riley White of Indianapolis was born on Feb. 20, 1919 to Fred Thomas Riley and Minnie Velma Douglas Riley, in Massac County, Ill.

She died on Dec. 5, 2012, at age 93 at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.

On Nov.1, 1940 she married Russell White, and he preceded her in death.

She became a cook at DePauw University after her children were raised and retired from there.

She was a faithful member of Brick Chapel United Methodist Church. She loved nature, animals, gardening and cooking for others.

She was a Putnam County resident for more than 50 years before moving to Indianapolis.

She is survived by daughter Judy (David) Hall; son Joseph White; and grandchildren Ginger (Bruce) Hamilton, Cheryl (Greg) Huffman, Jacqueline (Greg) Katter, Jolene White, Jeffery White and Wendy (Joseph) Park.

She is also survived by great-grandchildren Alan, Margaret, David and Jonathan Katter; Angelica Huffman; Marissa and Nathanael Hamilton; and step-great grandchildren Amy (Tony) Meacham and Gregory (Nickole) Huffman and step great-great grandchildren Isaac, Sy and Jude Meacham and Josiah and Samara Huffman. Also surviving are sisters Virginia (Ross) Thackwray and Vivian (Don) Brase, brother Bob (Pauline) Riley and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and sisters Carolyn Sue Hull and Nita June Rutherford and brother Paul Harrison Riley.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 9 at Hopkins-Rector Funeral Home, Greencastle, with Rev. Paul Taylor officiating. Interment will follow at Brick Chapel Cemetery.

Visitation will be at the funeral home from noon until time of service on Sunday.
