Hickory Creek at Sunset, a nursing home at 1109 S. Indiana St., Greencastle, has hired John Sword, HFA, RN, RAC-CT, as its new administrator.

Sword has experience working in long-term care going back more than 45 years.

"I have been in long-term care since my first days working in a nursing home in the dietary department in 1966," Sword said. "I became a licensed nurse in 1970, and was licensed as a nursing home administrator here in Indiana in 1973. I have worked in all aspects of nursing home operations across the country -- both large and small companies.

Sword and his wife Barbara returned to Indiana and the Putnam County area in 1997, moving to Heritage Lake. Then 11 years ago, the Swords relocated to the Cataract Lake area "area drawn by country living and the opportunity to fish, boat and camp more often."

However, Sword's nursing home work still required a lot of travel.

"When I saw the opportunity to come to Hickory Creek at Greencastle, only 10-15 minutes from my home, I jumped at the chance to work with staff, meet families, and care for residents who are from Greencastle and the surrounding area -- the placed that I consider to be my home," Sword said.
