Horizons of Putnam County spring classes to begin soon at PCPL

Monday, February 4, 2013

After a successful lineup of classes last fall, Horizons of Putnam County is offering a rich and varied group of new courses for the current spring session.

Founded in 1996 to offer "an adventure in lifelong education," Horizons offers a range of courses twice a year to Putnam County citizens and strives to provide opportunities for participants to expand their own horizons, develop new interests or encounter new ones.

Horizons is a non-profit organization and its instructors come from all over our community. Instructors take part in the program because they're excited about their topics or hobbies and they have a genuine wish to share their enthusiasm with others.

Courses vary in length from one-day sessions to a one-session-a-week-for-several-weeks format. Locations for the classes are selected by the instructors. If you or someone you know would be interested in leading a Horizons course in the future, or if there's a course you would like to see, contact the Putnam County Public Library's Reference Desk at 653-2755, extension 124, or email horizonspc@gmail.com.

Class options this spring are:

"Yoga for Everyone," "Dragonfly Pins" and Powdered Pigments and Coil Weaving on Gourds" with Marla Helton; a "Healing Power of the Drum Workshop" led by Julianne Miranda; "Needle Felting" with Heidi Warren; P.T. Wilson's popular "Native American Spirituality" overview, Marilyn Cullers' professional guidance with "Nature Photography: Sunsets and Low-Light Landscapes," "Serpentine Sparkle Bracelet," "Daisy Chains" and "Brain Boosters" with Lisa Cooper; and "Working with Chocolate" with Anastasia Wells.

There is a $20 fee for enrolling in the first course and additional courses are $15 each. Additional materials fees may be required for some sessions. This information is included in the full course descriptions, which may be found in the Horizons Spring 2013 Community Education Catalog, available at the Putnam County Public Library or online at horizonscommunityeducation.wordpress.com.
