GHS choral, piano students earn awards at solo, ensemble contest

More than 50 Greencastle High School choral and piano students participated in the annual Indiana State School Music Association's District Solo and Ensemble Contest Saturday, Feb. 2 at Terre Haute North Vigo High School.

Solo and Ensemble Contest is an annual event that enables Indiana's high school musicians to receive an evaluation on their musical skills from other music teachers from around the state.

Students may participate in a variety of formats from soloists to ensembles ranging in size from three to 20 musicians. Solo and Ensemble Contest is organized around a sequence of groupings determined by the difficulty of the music being performed by each soloist or ensemble.

Group V would be for beginning musicians, while Group I would be for the most advanced musicians. Students are judged on set musical criteria established by ISSMA and are awarded ratings of Gold, Silver, Bronze or participation by their adjudicators.

The results of the students from Greencastle High School are as follows:

The following students, by receiving a Gold Rating in Group I, have qualified to participate in the ISSMA State Solo and Ensemble Contest Feb. 23 at Perry Meridian HS, Indianapolis.
