Ray E. Wells

Ray E. Wells, 84, of Sebring, Fla., went to be with his Lord on Saturday, Feb. 9, 2013 at the Good Shepherd Hospice House in Sebring following a brief illness.

Mr. Wells was born on Sept. 10, 1928 in Greencastle to parents Louis E. and Eula Grace (Hutcheson) Wells. He graduated from Reelsville High School in 1947, where he was a member of the 1946 Reelsville High School basketball team that was inducted into the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame.

Mr. Wells served in the U.S. Army from 1950-1952.

He worked at IBM for more than 33 years, retiring in 1987, and he was a charter member of the Fillmore Volunteer Fire Department. He was a member of the Fillmore Christian Church and Past Master of Applegate Lodge No. 155 F&AM.

Mr. Wells married Merribeth Knetzer on May 23, 1954, and together they had four sons, David Wells, James Wells, Kenneth Wells and William Wells.

He was preceded in death by his parents, infant sister Mary Grace, brothers Charles Wells of Greencastle and Donald Wells of Brazil, his wife Merribeth, son James Wells and niece Jill Wells.

Mr. Wells is survived by his sister Marie Cooper (Robert) of Brownsburg; brothers Larry Wells (Deanna) and Ronnie Wells (Penny) of Greencastle; sister-in-law Marilyn Wells of Brazil; and sons David and wife Amy of Greencastle, Kenneth and wife Kelly of Greencastle and William and companion Wendy Hager of Indianapolis; granddaughters Amanda Mullenix (Mathew) of Greencastle; Ashley Herrera (Juan) of Culver City, Calif., and Savanna Wells and Sabrina Wells of Tilton, Ill.; grandsons Conner Ray Wells of Tilton, Ill., Kenneth Wells (Amanda) and Korie Wells (Lacy) of Greencastle and Kurt Wells (Tabitha) of Monrovia; great-granddaughters Makenna Wells, Keira Wells, Emelia Wells, Katelynn Mullenix and Lydia Wells; great-grandsons Leyton Wells and Keegan Wells; and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Wells is also survived by best friend and companion of many years, Alice A. Kosanke.

Services will be held at Sarasota National Cemetery at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 18. The family will hold a celebration of Ray's life in Greencastle at a later date.
