Marian Linn Wright

Marian Linn Wright, 93, of Greencastle, and formerly of Port Washington, N.Y., passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2013.

She was born on June 24, 1919 in Craig, Neb. to Dr. H.H. Linn (professor) and Dorothy Carlson Linn.

She graduated from Barnard College in 1941 with a bachelor's in History and Teachers College, Columbia University in 1942 with a Master's in Education.

Mrs. Wright was a high school history teacher in Northport, N.Y,, and married her husband, Rev. Robert Roy Wright, the pastor of the East Northport United Methodist Church in 1944.

Marian and her husband lived in both the New York and Connecticut areas, raising their family while Bob was the pastor at various United Methodist Churches. Marian was an enthusiastic pastor's wife, teaching Sunday school, leading Bible study and holding positions in the "Women's Society" of the churches.

The Wrights visited Greencastle many times over the years for reunions, as Bob had graduated from DePauw on the Rector's Scholarship before attending Yale Divinity School. Bob's youngest brother Jack was also a professor at DePauw and lived there with his wife Betty and children, Rick and Cindy.

Mrs. Wright was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Rev. Robert Wright in 2002 and her oldest son, Robert Henry Wright in 1990.

Surviving are a son, David Wright and wife Nancy Lewandowski of St. Louis; a daughter, Meryl Weight and husband Alec of Park City, Utah; five grandchildren, Jennifer Wright Lenzi, Gabrielle Wright, Christopher Weight, Matthew Weight and Ryan Weight; and four great-grandchildren.

The family would like to thank the Asbury Towers Retirement Community and Gobin Memorial United Methodist Church for their care and fellowship for the past five years of Marian's life.

Memorials in Marian's name may be directed to Gobin Memorial United Methodist Church or the charity of one's choice.
