In closing in on wrapping up its 2013 campaign on Friday, March 1, the United Way of Putnam County is still short of its $200,000 goal.

"We raised our goal $20,000 from last year in an effort to increase our support to our partner agencies throughout the community," United Way Executive Director Jennifer Edwards said in looking toward the campaign finish line and the upcoming annual dinner meeting.

"We are hopeful that this last week, we will be able to push through and achieve our goal so that we cannot only continue to support our current partners, but potentially partner with additional organizations in the coming year," Edwards added.

She said a few local contributors have made recent contributions in an effort to help United Way reach its goal.

"And we are so thankful for their support," Edwards praised. "The Putnamville Correctional Facility as well as TCU have made contributions above and beyond their employee contributions, but we are still short of our goal.

"If you have not supported the United Way of Putnam County, please consider doing so. Ninety-eight percent of the funds we raise are then allocated to help those right here in our community. Every contribution, big or small, is incredibly helpful."

With all of the recent changes in local, state and federal government, the United Way's partner agencies rely more than ever on the organization for their funding.

"Without our partners, human services needs of Putnam County residents would not be met," she stressed.

The United Way of Putnam County currently has 12 partner agencies.

"All of our agencies serve Putnam County, offering a plethora of programs and services to Putnam County residents," Edwards added.

United Way is currently accepting applications for partner agencies for the 2013-14 fiscal year. In order to apply, an organization must be a 501C3 who serves Putnam County and ideally focuses on one of our three building blocks of education, income or health. Application deadline is Friday, March 22.

The current partner agencies are: American Red Cross Putnam County Unit, Hope Haven Horse Farm, Johnson Nichols Health Clinic, Mental Health America in Putnam County, Putnam County Council on the Aging and Aged, Putnam County Comprehensive Services, Putnam County Chaplaincy Association, Putnam County Youth Development Commission, Putnam County Family Support Services, Reading Improvement Center, YMCA of Clay County and Summer Enrichment Program.

The United Way, Edwards said, is looking forward to highlighting its partner agencies and community impact grant recipients at its annual dinner and meeting scheduled for 6 p.m. Wednesday, March 13 at the Dixie Chopper Business and Conference Center at the Putnam County Airport.

The event is sponsored by DePauw University and Cedarview Farms with DePauw head football coach Bill Lynch to be speaking on what it means to "Live United."

Social hour is from 6-7 p.m. and guests will enjoy live entertainment from Doug Tipsword, a DePauw sophomore from Barrington, Ill.

The dinner and program will commence at 7 p.m.

This event is open to the public. The cost of the event is $30 per person or $150 for a table of six with a registration deadline of March 8 at 3 p.m.
