Greencastle senior Brett Gierke has been a fast riser in his football career. He came out for his senior season, contributed to an undefeated team with 11 sacks and worked himself into an All-Star and collegiate talent.

Gierke recently committed to play for the Wabash Little Giants. He'll stay at his defensive end spot and hopes to contribute on the field next year.

His recruiting didn't begin until this past December, but Gierke's accomplishments this season made him a hot commodity. He's been named to the Wabash Valley All-Star team, the Region Six All-Star team and the All-County team.

The Region Six nomination also makes Gierke eligible for the state's North-South All-Star game this summer.

"Going into college, the sky is the limit for him," GHS coach Josh Buis said. "He's a blank canvas."

Buis praised Gierke's leadership, coachability and work ethic, saying he is the type of person who will become a leader on every team he plays for.
